Can I install my own EV charging point?

Besides cutting greenhouse emissions, electric vehicles save you money and offer a better driving experience. As a matter of fact, there’s no reason not to want an EV. If you’re buying your first electric automobile, you might have some questions about where you can charge its battery.

Charging stations are being installed all across Australia. At present, there are only 800 charging stations, but as time goes on more of them will be rolling out. Some corporations have installed electric vehicle chargers in their garages and parking lots, which is good news. They typically feature Level 2 chargers.

Home EV charging is convenient, fast and affordable

If you don’t want to deal with the high demand at EV charging stations, broken chargers, and confusing payment systems, you’d better have an EV charging point installed at home. It’s the best way to keep your electric car running. Just think about it. You have an unlimited source of energy from the same source that powers your house. Plus, you don’t have to wake up early in the morning and drive for kilometres until you reach the nearest EV charging station to replenish your ride.

You should really think about installing a charging station at home. You could simply plug the automobile into an outlet, but you won’t get a very fast charge. So, if you want to be at the forefront of the green energy revolution, have your own EV charging point at home.

Can an EV charger be fitted DIY?

Electric vehicle manufacturers recommend having a dedicated charging point installed on your property after acquiring the vehicle. The question now is: Can you install your own EV charging point? Just so you know, it’s not possible. Theoretically speaking, you could do it yourself. You can install the wall box, but the work has to be signed off by a licensed electrician to comply with building regulations. You shouldn’t attempt to install the EV charger yourself if you’re not an experienced professional. Always reach out to a certified installer.

Work with a licensed electrician for your EV Charger installation

For Australian residents, it’s best to work with OLEV installers. Prior to installing the EV charging point, some factors need to be taken into consideration to establish if it’s okay to have an EVCP installed at home. It might be necessary to seek permission ahead of time, include the EV in the normal electricity demands of the property, and locate a suitable place for installing the charging point. A licensed and certified electrician will know what to do.
